Set in 1950s Norway, Hedda Gabler follows General Gabler's daughter Hedda as she returns from her honeymoon with husband Tesman, concealing her contempt for her upper-class life behind a mask of frivolity. When old classmate Thea and Hedda's former flame Løvborg enter her world, Hedda attempts to stoke competition and test the limits of her control over those around her. The production features a double cast, with Eef de Korte and Alisa Shcherban sharing the lead role, and includes two Norwegian cast members. By placing Ibsen's story in the 1950s, English Theatre Utrecht explores themes of nature versus nurture and society's objectifying view of women.
