THE CASTLE IN THE AIR by Marionettes
Jacques Offenbach wrote 'No. 66!' (The castle in the air) in 1856 for his own small theatre, a wooden auction hall at the Champs-Elysées in Paris.
Now, this unknown opéra-comique can be seen in a former blacksmith's - the theatre of the Amsterdam Marionette Theatre.
The story is about Jeannot and Jeannette, who are on their way to Paris.
They earn their living with dance and song. When they meet a pedlar who displays his products, Jeannot can no longer resist the temptation.
He buys a lottery ticket to be able to buy all these beautiful things. When it turns out he has become a millionaire, he seems to lose not only his dear Jeannette, but also his ideals...
Six puppeteers manipulate the large, wooden marionettes.
A performance for both adults and children (min. 6 yrs.) of approx. 1 1/2 uur (a short interval included).
The performance will be performed in Dutch, but because of the musical and visual character of the performance, there is no serious barrier of language.
