Dutch National Ballet presents its new season, which includes many new ballets, some exciting collaborations and a grand tribute to one of the most important ballet composers of the 20th century: Igor Stravinsky.

In total, the company will dance no fewer than seven world premieres, including two new full-length productions. The leading British choreographer Wayne McGregor is creating the new full-length production Oedipus Rex / From 'Antigone': a collaboration between Dutch National Ballet and Dutch National Opera.

The second new full-length production is Dorian, based on the world-famous book by Oscar Wilde: The Picture of Dorian Gray. Dorian, the third joint production by the choreographers Ernst Meisner & Marco Gerris, will be performed by dancers from Dutch National Ballet, the Junior Company and ISH Dance Collective.

The line-up includes a further five world premieres. The Polish choreographer Krzysztof Pastor is making a new version of Petrushka, and director Ted Brandsen is creating a new ballet entitled The Chairman Dances. The Junior Company's touring programme will include world premieres choreographed by Milena Sidorova, Sedrig Verwoert and Marta Reig Torres, and a European premiere by Wubkje Kuindersma. The second European premiere in the new season is by Alexei Ratmansky: The Fairy's Kiss.

The composer Igor Stravinsky has had a huge impact on dance. In honour of the 50th anniversary of his death in 2021, Dutch National Ballet is presenting no fewer than three programmes of ballets set to his compositions: Stravinsky Fairy Tales, Oedipus Rex / From 'Antigone' and Stravinsky's Masterpieces.

Exclusively for Stravinsky's Masterpieces, Dutch National Ballet is collaborating with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, which will give live performances of Stravinsky's compositions.

The new season also sees the return of several short ballets, and the company will be dancing three big classics: The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, La Bayadère and Onegin.

In keeping with tradition, the ballet season opens with the Gala, on 14 September 2020.

Subscription tickets are on sale now and ticket sales for individual performances start in June.
