UNTITLED Artists Group Presents RETROSPECTIVE - 20 Years of Art July 22

By:

Nashville's UNTITLED Artists Group will present its 2011 summer show "RETROSPECTIVE," Friday, July 22 from 6 to 10 p.m. Celebrating Untitled's 20th anniversary, this free, all-ages, one-night-only art event will take place at 506 Events Gallery, in conjunction with 508 Lofts, conveniently located at 508 Davidson Street near downtown Nashville on the East Bank of the Cumberland River.

Untitled's roots are deeply engrained in the Nashville art community, bringing emerging and experienced artists together for one-night-only art shows at unique venues throughout the metropolitan Nashville area. In a city teeming with musical talent, it's only natural that the visual art community thrive as well. When Untitled formed 20 years ago, visual art in Nashville was practically non-existent and now art shows are opening every week! Nashville's visual arts roots will be celebrated at Untitled's 20th anniversary one-night-only art show, RETROSPECTIVE.

It's time to enjoy great art, cocktails, and fascinating people in a relaxed non-traditional environment. Join Nashville's emerging and innovative artists for the group's large reunion show, hosted by SideShow Bennie. "RETROSPECTIVE" is the latest in a series of successful quarterly exhibitions that support artistic innovation and offer alternative visual art in non-traditional spaces. Untitled charges no commission to exhibiting artists and offers the opportunity for patrons to view and purchase original art by local artists. Patrons may purchase artwork by cash or check and may take their pieces home with them at 10 p.m. the evening of the show. There will also be a section for patrons to purchase a variety of small works and crafts by participating artists. This gives everyone a chance to purchase an affordable piece of art by local artists.

Untitled looks forward to partnering with 506 EVENTS GALLERY in conjunction with 508 LOFTS as the location of the summer show. 508 Lofts, located in East Nashville on Davidson Street near the river, was built in the early 1900's as an urban industrial building. 508 Lofts houses unique residential artists lofts, an art gallery and a brand new event space named 506 Events Gallery. This building has become widely known as the location of the popular haunted attraction "Devil's Dungeon." For more information visit www.508lofts.com

In addition to art by many local veteran and emerging artists, complimentary drinks, and mingling, live performances are scheduled throughout the evening as well as music by DJs Ugly Lovely and TEE-AYE-SEE-OHH, live body painting, food trucks and an interactive photo booth.
Performances include:
SideShow Bennie. Untitled is excited to have SideShow Bennie return to Untitled since his beginnings in the group in the mid-1990's. Sideshow Bennie will not only host the RETROSPECTIVE event, but will perform as well. His pain threshold is legendary and his wit is bountiful and those two attributes combine to make SideShow Bennie an entertainment extravaganza without peer.

They pull inspiration from many ethnic styles of music and movement, such as: flamenco, bollywood, folkloric and traditional bellydance.
