SKYROC: A Benefit for the Oasis Center Bike Workshop, is a live music concert that will include video, slideshow, dance and door prize drawings in honor of Schuyler Vassen. All proceeds will be donated to the Oasis Center Bike Workshop.

About Schuyler Vassen (SKYROC):

In the early morning of September 14th, 2011, approximately 2:00am, Schuyler Vassen was admitted to Vanderbilt Hospital's Trauma Center after sustaining a head injury from a bicycle related accident. Unfortunately, Schuyler was not wearing a helmet. After spending most of the day unconscious and on life support, at 8:00pm that evening, Schuyler Vassen was pronounced brain dead and was later taken off life support.

Schuyler was an employee of the Belcourt Theatre but, more importantly, a friend to everyone he encountered during his short stay at the Belcourt. His untimely death struck a blow to his family, friends and fellow staff members. We cannot help but feel this could have all been avoided had Schuyler been wearing his helmet.

It is our intension with this benefit show to raise awareness of the importance of wearing a helmet, and how this simple task could potentially save lives. More importantly, we hope to raise money for the Oasis Center Bicycle Workshop to supply them with helmets, toolkits, t-shirts and other necessities to help the program reach out to more underprivileged individuals.

About the Oasis Bike Program: Mobilizing Youth Throughout Nashville

The Workshop is a collaboration between the Oasis Center and Halcyon Bike Shop. The Workshop is a free, six-week program open to Nashville's underprivileged youth.

The Workshop grew from concern that youth of Nashville do not have adequate transportation multiplied by the fact that young people are often overlooked as agents of change. Oasis believes that bicycling is a healthy and sustainable mode of transportation that is often forgotten or considered to be too difficult and dangerous for youth on our urban streets. Other times, bikes are simply unaffordable.

Youth participants will take a pledge promising to pass on the knowledge they gain in these workshops to other young people in their neighborhoods. This will, in turn, engage them in their neighborhoods and the larger community and provide them with the training and experience they need to become activists in their own ways.

Last year over 150 youth completed the bike program. That means 150 more young people own a bike, are safe and skilled riders, and now have access to more opportunities than ever before.

The all ages concert features Colorfeels, The Grayces, Buffalo Clover and Jessica Breanne & the Electric Hearts. The night will also offer videos, dance, and door prizes; including a brand new bicycle built and donated by Halcyon Bike Shop and Bern® helmets designed by local Nashville artists. THE BANDS

COLORFEELS
In the winter of 2008, Parker Cason and Justin Maurer teamed up to help push each other creatively. They soon realized that they shared a special musical connection worth pursuing. Taylor Zachry, a long-time friend and musical collaborator of Parker's, joined their efforts and brought a new energy to the duo which helped solidify what would become the core of a changing line-up. With the addition of multi-instrumentalist and texture auteur, Jared Ziemba, the sound of Colorfeels departed from its earthly origins, never to return. The band, joined by the young, talented drummer, Matt Scibilia, brought an entire studio's gear to the Cason family home in Brentwood, Tennessee. Colorfeels camped out for a week with friends/audio engineers Ben Klise and Andrew Darby.

THE GRAYCES

Music is all about the moment, with the intensity of in your face honesty. Founding member Iz Stone heads the Nashville based band The Grayces. Current members include Iz Stone ( vocal/guitar), Gaelen Mitchell (drums) and Patrick Ward (bass). The Grayces are an all original rock band that have been compared but not limited to artists such as Gary Numan, The Ramones and The White Stripes.

BUFFALO CLOVER
Buffalo Clover is one of Nashville's most eclectic bands. Fronted by songstress Margo Price, the group draws its inspiration from true roots music. Price and her husband/co-writer, Jeremy Ivey, formed the band after meeting in Nashville in 2008. Their styles range from underdog gypsy punk to Motown boxcar blues, Vaudevillian acid rock to train wreck folk. Their songs are unique yet familiar with a lyrical craft rarely present in popular music.

Buffalo Clover's experience includes extensive U.S. touring. They've played venues including The House of Blues, The Redstone Room, and the River Roots Festival. They've also shared the stage with great acts including Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and The Flaming Lips.

JESSICA BREANNE AND THE ELECTRIC HEARTS
Jessica Breanne & The Electric Hearts draw on the soul of Stax and the blues of the delta to create an original sound that breaks the mold of the city they reside and perform in. Their music weaves together new sounds with classic throwback elements. The Electric Hearts have been hard at work completing their debut LP, which is being produced by local producer and band-mate, Mike Odmark.

After recently winning the "Battle on Third" competition against 36 local bands, opening for Robert Randolph & The Family Band, The Wooten Brothers, and more: Jessica Breanne & The Electric Hearts are quickly becoming the band to see in Nashville.
