Photo Flash: Street Theatre Company Brings You The Explosive TICK...TICK...BOOM

By:

Street Theatre Company presents the final musical of its explosive 2016 season, tick...tick...BOOM!. Written by the Pulitzer Prize-winning Jonathan Larson, creator of the Tony Award smash hit RENT [recently in production at TPAC], and David Auburn, whose incredible play Proof earned him his own Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award, tick...tick...BOOM! opened Off-Broadway in 2001 before moving to West End and the London stage.

Tick...tick...BOOM!, Larson's autobiographical musical, tells the story of a composer and the sacrifices he makes to achieve his big break in theater. His girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city, his best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue, and yet Jon is still waiting tables and trying to write the great American musical. Certainly, the musical's universal themes of aging and achievement speak to us all.

Tick...tick...BOOM! comes at the end of a fantastic year for Street Theatre, the company having mounted In the Heights and Urinetown earlier this year to tremendous audience and critic raves. True to form, Jason Tucker closes his first season as Street Theatre's Artistic Director with a bang. Director Brett Myers and Music Director Randy Craft have chosen three of Nashville's favorite performers in this small but mighty cast: Chris Thomas, Geoff Davin, and Christina Candilora.

"I chose tick, tick...BOOM! to end our Season of Change because of its youthful vitality and the drive and passion of Jon, the leading character," says Tucker. "This year is the 20th anniversary of the cultural phenomenon that was RENT. What better way to mark that important anniversary than with a production of [Larson's] first true theater piece?"

It should be noted that Broadway agrees: a new production of Tick, tick...BOOM! opens again Off-Broadway this year, as well.

Tick...tick...BOOM! runs at Street Theatre Company November 18-December 4, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 and Sundays at 5:00, at Holy Trinity Church on Charlotte Pike. Tickets are $20 for adults and $16 for children, students, and seniors, and there is one Pay-What You-Can performance Thursday, December 1 at 7:30.
