Nashville Ballet will combine two ballets with Spanish flair - Paquita and Ferdinand the Bull - to introduce young children to the world of movement and music when it stages Señoritas y Toros May 11 - 19 at The Martin Center for Nashville Ballet.

"Our children's programs like Señoritas y Toros are designed specifically for families to introduce art, music, dance and live theater to small children," Nashville Ballet Director of Artistic Operations Sharyn Mahoney said. "Families and children of all ages will enjoy the short run time, small audience size, audience participation component and fun stories in Señoritas y Toros."

With bright, colorful costumes inspired by cubist Pablo Picasso and designed by School of Nashville Ballet instructor Eric Harris,Ferdinand the Bull tells the story of a peaceful bull who only wants to smell the flowers in the meadow, making him unfit for the bullfighting rings in Spain. Based on the classic book by Munro Leaf Ferdinand the Bull premiered in 2007 with original choreography from Nashville Ballet Artistic Director & CEO Paul Vasterling and music from Mario DaSilva, an Adjunct Instructor of Music at the Belmont University School of Music.

Señoritas y Toros also features a display of classical ballet, complete with colorful tutus and pointe shoes, from Paquita, one of classical ballet's most energetic works. Dancers from Nashville Ballet's Second Company, NB2, will perform Paquita's choreography created byMarius Petipa in 1847, and set to music by Ludwig Minkus.

Señoritas y Toros, presented by Nashville Parent, will be held at The Martin Center for Nashville Ballet for four performances:

Saturday, May 11 at 2 p.m.
Sunday, May 12 at 2 p.m.
Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m.
Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m.
