Dance Theatre of Tennessee Announces 'Many Faces of Eve' 2012-13 Season

Dance Theatre of Tennessee celebrates strong female voices, stories and the diversity of the arts with its 2012/2013 line-up The Many Faces of Eve.

Christopher Mohnani, DTT artistic director, promises "the upcoming season will hold something for everyone with its rich offering of professional performances."

The season commences with the first annual Ballet at the Park featuring Carmen and Other Ballets. In partnership with Metro Parks, Dance Theatre of Tennessee ushers in Artober, Nashville's citywide and month long art celebration with the powerful and dramatic story of Carmen.

Having Centennial Park as a backdrop, Mohnani says DTT hopes to further enrich the community's appreciation for dance and ballet by making it accessible and up-close. Also included in the program is an audience favorite Ecole de Ballet, described as "an exhilarating journey of a ballet dancer from a young eager dancer to a confident artist."

Performances are on September 29  and 30, with a special Artober performance on October 1. Performance starts at 7:30 p.m. with a pre-show entertainment at 6:30 p.m. All performances are at the Centennial Park Bandshell.

A special one-night performance with Nashville Jazz Orchestra is planned for October 5  in Ingram Theater at Vanderbilt University. This first time collaboration will feature the exciting sights and sound of Latin music as provided by two of the most exciting performing arts organizations in the city.

As the holidays draw closer, DTT will delight audiences throughout Middle Tennessee with its charming full-version tour of The Nutcracker.

"Children and adults alike will enjoy this timeless classic as Dance Theatre of Tennessee brings this beautiful production to a city near you," Mohnani says. "This year, DTT bring its touring Nutcracker to Davidson County (Nashville), Dickson County (Dickson), Montgomery County (Clarksville), Rutherford County (Smyrna and Murfreesboro) and Dekalb County (Smithville).

After the hustle and bustle of the holidays, DTT will welcome in 2013 with Muses, a diverse and eclectic line-up of some of the most celebrated choreographers in the country today. Included in the program is George Balanchine's Who Cares, the famous choreographer's ode to New York. Paired with George Gershwin's timeless music, this piece will transport the audience to the city that never sleeps.

National Ballet of China and Tulsa Ballet's Ma Cong takes on relationships with Tango music and will present his Passion, There. Finally, the evening will close with Darrel Grand Moultrie's world premiere. In this yet to be titled piece, Darrel brings his unique vocabulary and sense of style that have endeared him to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Julliard and other companies nationwide. Performances are on March 2 and 3, 2013 at Father Ryan Auditorium.

The season will draw to a close with DTT's Story Book Series featuring one of the most beloved fairy tales of all time, a full-length version of Cinderella. Children will enjoy the special pre-show activities designed for both the young and the young at heart. Performances are on May 4 and 5, 2013 in Tucker Theatre at Middle Tennessee State University.

Other highlights of the season include the continuation of DTT's successful Anti- Bullying Ugly Duckling outreach performances, which runs throughout the year, as well as a special In-Studio Choreographer's Series.

A Children's Ballet Series performed around the community in partnership with different venues and organizations will also be announced.
