Sasha Samar’s story is as red as the sky over Chernobyl, as red as the iron-rich soil, as red as his passion for Nadia Comaneci, as red as the images broadcast by the first colour TV, as red as the Army, as red as the theatre curtain he dreams about. Sasha grew up in Ukraine amid the massive upheavals that split the Soviet Bloc. Today he is an actor, and he’s giving the performance of his life—literally.

Struck by this improbable and incredible story, playwright and director Olivier Kemeid determined to share it. It’s an epic undertaking, a narrative set against a backdrop of historical events and conveyed with Olivier’s characteristic sensitivity and eloquence; an inspired tale of liberty and disillusionment, the journey of a young man shaped by his troubled relationship with his father and his desperate search for his mother, whom he imagines he sees at every turn.
