Gala Artisans Québec Cinéma 2018 Les Affamés And Hochelaga, Terre Des Âmes Are The Big Winners

This evening, the GALA ARTISANS QUÉBEC CINÉMA kicked off the annual grand celebration of our films. A total of 14 Iris awards were presented in recognition of the immense talent of the creative people who make Quebec's movies. The Gala, hosted by the always-lively Pier-Luc Funk and Léane Labrèche-Dor, was broadcast live from Studio 42 at Maison de Radio-Canada on ICI ARTV.

With 5 Iris awards, Les affamés by Robin Aubert was the evening's big winner. The film won trophies for Best Sound thanks to the work of Jean-Sébastien Beaudoin Gagnon, Stéphane Bergeron and Olivier Calvert, Best Visual Effects for the work of Alchimie 24 - Jean-François "Jafaz" Ferland, Best Original Music for Pierre-Philippe "Pilou" Côté, who composed the film's soundtrack, Best Makeup for Erik Gosselin and Marie-France Guy and The Most Successful Film Outside Quebec. Cinematographer Nicolas Bolduc accepted the first statuette of the evening, for Best Cinematography, for his work on Hochelaga, Terre des Âmes by François Girard.

The film went on to win three more awards: François Séguin received the Iris for Best Art Direction, Mario Davignon was awarded Best Costumes and Réjean Forget and Ann-Louise Landry won the award for Best Hairstyling. Editor Dominique Fortin accepted an Iris for her work on Chien de garde by Sophie Dupuis. Emanuelle Beaugrand-Champagne, Nathalie Boutrie (Casting NB) and Frédérique Proulx were awarded the Iris for Best Casting for Les rois mongols by Luc Picard.

On the documentary side, the award for Best Cinematography | Documentary went to François Messier-Rheault for his work on Ta peau si lisse by Denis Côté. Catherine Van Der Donckt and Jean Paul Vialard received the award in the new category of Best Sound | Documentary for La part du diable by Luc Bourdon. Anouk Deschênes took home the statuette for Best Editing | Documentary for her work on Manic by Kalina Bertin.

Québec Cinéma is very proud of this successful second annual GALA ARTISANS QUÉBEC CINÉMA, which puts the spotlight on the work of our film industry's artists and technical professionals. The artistic team for the GALA ARTISANS included writer Julien Corriveau, of Appendices, and producer Mario Rouleau. The finalists and winners also had the chance to celebrate this big night at the Party Gala Artisans presented by MELS. RED CARPET, GALA AND POST-GALA SPECIALThe festivities continue this Sunday with the GALA QUÉBEC CINÉMA.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Édith Cochrane and Guylaine Tremblay, will be broadcast live from Studio 42 at Maison de Radio-Canada at 8 p.m. Herby Moreau and Claudine Prévost will host the pre-Gala red carpet, sharing the excitement of a magical evening with viewers at home.

The GALA ARTISANS QUÉBEC CINÉMA will be rebroadcast on Sunday, June 3 at 6 p.m. on ICI ARTV.
