The Cinema Revolution Society's 3rd annual Dance Film Project encourages creativity, experimentation and cross-discipline dialogue among Minnesota artists. Dancemakers, filmmakers and musicians collaborate to create original short works for the camera presented in two unique programs each evening.
"Dance Film Project is a platform for local choreographers and directors to converse and experiment with a hybrid medium, pushing dance and film in new directions and affecting the way we perceive life and art," said festival director Vanessa Voskuil.
Dance Film Project 2010 will premiere 25 new, original dance films created by a mix of established and emerging local artists. Choreographers Shawn McConnoloug and Paula Mann will open the programs with video and stage works. Mann will premiere new solo, Oh the Humanity, and McConnoloug will restage the 2010 Sage Award Nominee for Outstanding Design, subVert, created for 2008 McKnight Fellow for Dance, Mary Ann Bradley.Additionally, new media installations that focus on the body and movement will be on display by local artists in the lobby of the Southern Theater. An opening night pre show reception sponsored by Red Stag Supperclub will begin at 6pm.
Cinema Revolution Society (CRS) is one of a handful of growing organizations in the United States that present the emerging field of dance media. CRS strives to create a broader and more engaged audience for dance and dance media by merging both performance and cinematic aesthetics.
