Stages Theatre Company Opens THE SECRET GARDEN, 3/2

By:

Stages Theatre Company (STC) opens "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett on March 2 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. Recognized as a staple of classic English children's literature (published in 1911) the story centers around orphan Mary Lennox and her mysterious cousin Colin, who together share the secret of an old hidden garden on the grounds of the estate. This musical adaptation was created just for Stages Theatre Company and is for ages six and up with a run time of 75 minutes.

Director Leah Adcock-Starr first read "The Secret Garden" when she was age 10. "This story captures my imagination and exhilarates my senses. When the opportunity arose to direct this play, I leapt at it."

Written by Jerry Seifert with music by Leanna Kirchoff, this timeless tale delivers hope and inspiration that Director Adcock-Starr finds captivating. "This is a story about the journey from winter to spring, bud to bloom, shadow to sunlight, from insolation to connection. I think it's a story of hope and potential…and that inspires me. I hope it inspires you."

"The Secret Garden" opens March 2 and ends March 18, and tickets can be purchased by visiting www.stagestheatre.org for performance dates and times, or by calling the Box Office at (952) 979-1111, Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for children (ages 5 to 17) and seniors (60+). Lap passes are available for free (ages 0 to 2) and $5 (ages 3 to 4).

Stages Theatre Company was founded in 1984 and since then has grown to become one of the largest professional theatres for young audiences in the country. We engage young artists with themes relevant to their lives and involve them in creating magical works featuring young people in meaningful roles. Through theatrical productions, workshops, conservatory classes and other outreach programs, Stages Theatre Company annually serves more than 130,000 young people and their families.
