Southern Theatre Presents DJ Rupture and Owen Weaver, 12/14

By: Nov. 10, 2010

DJ/rupture is the pseudonym of New York-based DJ and producer Jace Clayton, whose standard setup involves three turntables on which he creates complicated mixes to kaleidoscopic effect. His dynamic live sets simultaneously rock the party and suggest complex political undertones.  Rupture has performed in more than 25 countries, was turntable soloist with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, and runs Soot Records, an independent label. His Southern debut will include live video and film accompaniment.

"I incorporate elements of dance music, utilize instrumental fragments, and heavily rely on improvisation within my mixes," said Clayton. "When I work with video, I tend to take a narrative course and favor real-time collage."

The acoustic and electronic sounds of solo percussionist Owen Weaver-heard in rock clubs and concert halls in equal measure-range from the visceral to the sublime. Minnesota-born and Texas-based, he has appeared twice in New York's Wordless Music Series and was recently presented at Bang on a Can Festival 2010. Weaver's Southern Theater performance will feature an all-electroacoustic percussion set with new works by Austin composers Graham Reynolds and Steve Snowden as well as NY based Tristan Perich's unique 1 bit electronic music and a seminal 1984 work for solo maracas by Javier Alvarez.
