Jungle Theater’s WAITING FOR GODOT Opens Tonight, 8/24

By:

Twin Cities favorites Nathan Keepers (Estragon) and Jim Lichtscheidl (Vladimir) take on the leading roles in The Jungle Theater's WAITING FOR GODOT, Samuel Beckett's "tragicomedy in two acts," widely considered one of the most significant plays of the 20th century. Artistic Director Bain Boehlke directs the duo who play two old friends debating the meaning of life and the absurdities of human behavior in this funny, captivating and illuminating production. Allen Hamilton (Pozzo) and Charles Schuminski (Lucky) round out the cast.

The play opens tonight, August 24 and runs through September 30 at the Lyn-Lake theater at 2951 Lyndale Avenue S., in Minneapolis.

In Beckett's seminal work-his first professionally-produced play-two long-time wanderers talk, joke and argue as they wait for the mysterious Godot. A marriage of the poetic, the comic and the tragic-and a redefinition of what is possible in theatre-Waiting for Godot has been asking big questions since it was first staged in Paris in 1953.

According to Boehlke, "Given the existential realities of the world, Beckett's mid-century masterpiece is even more relevant today.  Audiences will find that Waiting for Godot is deeply moving, profound-and with this cast-hilarious."

Waiting for Godot's creative team includes Boehlke (scenic design), Barry Browning (lighting design), Amelia Cheever (costume design), Sean Healey (sound designer), Peter Moore (fight choreographer), John Novak (stage manager and props) and John Stillwell (technical director).

Waiting for Godot performances are Tuesdays ($20), Wednesdays ($28) and Thursdays ($33) at 7:30 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. ($38); Sundays at 2 p.m. ($33); and Sundays at 7:30 p.m. ($28). Senior, student and group discounts are also available, and half-price rush tickets are available every night of the week 30 minutes prior to the performance for $10 off the regular price. Tickets are available at (612) 822-7063 or online at www.jungletheater.com.
