After performances all over the world, Jeffrey Hatcher's play returns to where it got its start-Illusion Theater. Compelling characters, surprising twists and a darkly comic tone connect the three interlocking monologues in THREE VIEWINGS, which opens April 15 and runs through May 14, at the downtown Minneapolis theater, located on the eighth floor of the Hennepin Center for the Arts, 528 Hennepin Avenue.

Over the course of one weekend, three characters in a Midwestern funeral home tell stories in which the comic, the shocking and the heart-wrenching all intertwine and reveal, one by one, the essence of a man's longing, the core of one young woman's unimaginable anguish and the truth of an older woman's marriage. Three Viewings, directed by Illusion's Producing Director Michael Robins, first premiered regionally at the Illusion in 1994.

"Tell-Tale" is the story of Emil (James Cada), a mild-mannered undertaker secretly in love with a local real estate woman, who plots how to confess his true feelings before time-and bodies-run out. "The Thief of Tears" tells the story of Mac (Carolyn Pool), a beautiful drifter, who makes her living stealing jewelry from corpses. When her wealthy grandmother dies, Mac returns to her hometown for her inheritance, finding more obstacles and revelations about her own past than she had bargained for. In "Thirteen Things About Ed Carpolotti," Barbara Kingsley, who participated in the original 1992 script workshops, plays Virginia, the widow of a wheeler-dealer contractor who discovers just how her husband Ed has been doing business.

"What a pleasure it is to return to the first Jeff Hatcher play we developed," said Director Robins. "After working on it in Fresh Ink, the Manhattan Theatre Club wanted to do it and so the premiere went to New York City for a play launch that has become a favorite all around the country. The three actors we have cast will bring such great insights to these wonderful characters. I can't wait to listen to the audience and see where they laugh and where they tear-up from night to night."

Tickets for Three Viewings are $15-$30. Group discounts are available for groups of 10 or more people. Tickets are available at the Illusion Theater Box Office at 612-339-4944 or online at www.illusiontheater.org.
