History Theatre's 2013-2014 season will include 3 world premieres, 2 regional premieres, and 1 returning favorite. These six distinct plays and musicals will explore what it means to be an American "hero." What is promised and sacrificed when ordinary people are faced with extraordinary circumstances? What is the measure of heroism and has that measurement changed over time?

The season will begin with the regional premiere of Baby Case, a new musical about the original Media Circus that surrounded the Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping; exploring the media's role in building up and tearing down heroes and villains in the court of public opinion. The holiday season will be brightened once again by the music and charm of The Andrews Sisters. Back by popular demand, Christmas of Swing will feature a bigger band and a larger ensemble to swing along with our returning "Sisters" Ruthie Baker, Stacey Lindell, and Jen Burleigh-Bentz. In February History Theatre will open the world premiere of a new play by Eric Simonson: The Incredible Season of Ronnie Rabinovitz. The playwright who brought us Lombardi takes another trip back to Wisconsin to tell the remarkable true story of the Rabinovitz family and Ronnie's unique friendships with two of his heroes in 1960: Jackie Robinson and John F. Kennedy.

In March, History Theatre will honor two generations of veterans with two shows running in rep that illuminate the soldiers' experiences of America's most recent wars. Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried, the quintessential book about the Vietnam War from one soldier's perspective, is adapted for the stage by Jim Stowell and will be performed as a one-man show by Steven D'Ambrose. And Lonely Soldiers: Women at War in Iraq by Helen Benedict gives voice to eight women who served in combat during the early years of the Iraq war, detailing their battles both in the field and in the barracks.

In the spring, History Theatre will revisit a Minneapolis institution that served hundreds of young people in the early part of the 20th century through music. Working Boys Band, a world premiere with book and lyrics by Dominic Orlando and music by Hiram Titus, is a celebration of community, music, love, and patriotism.
