Hennepin Theatre Trust presents MADE HERE Windows with “Energy” Theme

Hennepin Theatre Trust will launch Energy: Made Here, presented by Andersen Windows, with a free, public celebration in the ART Gallery at Le Meridien Chambers Minneapolis on Tuesday, Dec. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. This will be the ninth round of Made Here window displays in WeDo-the West Downtown Minneapolis Cultural District.

Energy: Made Here features the work of more than 30 Minnesota artists exploring the theme "energy" through 20 window displays and two large-scale photography exhibits on the exterior of Mayo Clinic Square. The launch event will include a walking tour of the 20 window displays and public art projects in downtown Minneapolis. Additional activities include a holiday artist, live music, performance artists and refreshments provided by Mercy Bar and Dining Room. The Trust will lead group walking tours of the displays at 6 and 7 p.m.

Highlights of Energy: Made Here include two large-scale installations in the windows of Mayo Clinic Square. Legendary, by Tom Baker, Hannah Foslien, and Maya Washington, will feature portraiture of football legends, Carl Eller, Alan Page and Gene Washington. Urban Mandala by Neal Peterson includes two large collages composed of hundreds of photos taken around Minneapolis.

The Trust also is collaborating with Global Rights for Women (GRW) and MAD DADS to create window displays that exhibit their respective missions. The Made Here GRW window features the work of local photographers, Marissa Murdy and Sarah White, and gives voice to survivors of domestic violence. The MAD DADS Made Here window includes a video that showcases their mission to bring positive change to communities.

The Trust's Made Here project fills windows and other underused spaces throughout WeDo twice per year with works by local artists. It has grown from visual displays in windows to live performances, artist markets, pop-up galleries and more. Launched in 2013, Made Here is now the largest project of its kind in the country.

Andersen Windows has been the presenting sponsor of Made Here since 2014, allowing the project to grow and attract additional community support. A grant from The McKnight Foundation allows supplies and resources for artist payment and artistic practice.
