Whether you are charmed by classic tales like The Magic Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, Pippi Longstocking and A Year with Frog & Toad, or you enjoy an unexpected take on a well-known story (Cinderella), nearly everyone who has had the opportunity to attend Children's Theatre Company (CTC) has a heart-felt memory of their experience here.
With the opening of the 2010-2011 season, Children's Theatre Company begins a year-long celebration of our legacy and role within the Twin Cities community, as we enter the organization's 45th Anniversary.
I will continue to forward additional details as we near the opening of each production, but in the meantime, I am attaching an overview of details from our entire season for your planning purposes. (Descriptions, Opening Nights, Run Dates, etc., are attached.) Please join us throughout the upcoming season as we are thrilled to stage:· A beloved production of Dr. Seuss' The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins - CTC is the one and only theatre in the country with the rights, granted by the Seuss Foundation, to produce this charming tale. As many of you know, this production has appeared on our main stage five times since 1979 (this marks the 6th production) and it has traveled worldwide to countries as far as Russia, China and Japan.· Director Greg Banks' production of Robin Hood - Greg's recent productions of Romeo & Juliet and Huck Finn received critical acclaim and we are thrilled to have him back in the U.S. to stage his own dramatic and interactive approach to an age-old story.
· A Christmas Story - Based on the 1983 movie, A Christmas Story is an annual tradition in households across the Midwest. This year, we hope the Twin Cities will help us root for Ralphie-in person-as he pleas for the Red Rider BB gun he so desperately wants.
· Babe - Do we need to say anything else? Babe knows exactly what he's made of and in his heart knows he's a champion. A magical little tale that brings the barnyard to life.
· Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony Award nominee Quiara Alegria Hudes (In the Heights), Barrio Grrrl! A New Musical is the amazing story of nine-year old Anna, a spunky young hero who draws from her music, Latino culture, her family and a tenacious sidekick named Amazing Voice.
· Annie - This historic Anniversary yields an entirely new CTC favorite. Never before produced at Children's Theatre Company, Annie brings to life the darling tale of Little Orphan Annie that we all remember. Directed by the extraordinarily talented Peter Rothstein, who directed CTC's recent production of High School Musical, Annie is among our most requested productions and we are thrilled to have Peter bring his vision and unique director's view to this timeless story.
