Welcome to November at the Peck School of the Arts! Chamber Music Milwaukee starts off the month with a concert of music by film composers on the 1st. And the Fine Arts Quartet continues to celebrate their 65th anniversary with a free concert on the 14th. A full schedule of events is provided below.

Main Attractions
Nov 1 - Chamber Music Milwaukee, 7:30pm, Helen Bader Concert Hall
Directed by Music Department faculty members Gregory Flint, horn and Todd Levy, clarinet (photo, left), Chamber Music Milwaukee presents a concert of music by film composers.
$17 general/$12 seniors, faculty, alumni/$10 students

Nov 4 - Milwaukee LGBT Film/Video Festival Monthly Screening, 7pm, Union Theatre
Presenting two films celebrating trans history -- "Queens at Heart (1965) and "Forever's Gonna Start Tonight," a documentary about San Francisco living legend Vicki Marlane, America's oldest professional transgender entertainer.
$5

Nov 5 - Noche de Música, 7pm, Zelazo
An evening of Latin American music, food and dancing to benefit the Excelencia en la Música Scholarship at the Peck School of the Arts. Festivities will include Bahía (Latin Jazz), a Bohemia (piano bar sing-along), hors d'oeuvres, a raffle and more.
$15 per person/$10 for students and alumni

Nov 14 - Fine Arts Quartet, 3pm, Helen Bader Concert Hall
In celebration of its 65th anniversary season, the Quartet and guest pianist Xiayin Wang will perform music by Schumann and Franck.

Nov 3 - Artists Now! Noam Toran, 7pm, Arts Center Lecture Hall
Noam Toran's work spans multiple disciplines and mediums, primarily involving the creation of objects and films that reflect upon the intersection between cinema, design, mass culture, technology and psychology.

Exhibition featuring selected works from the Spring 2010 Woven Structure class in the Department of Art & Design.

Nov 17 - Artists Now! Jon Rappleye: After Eden, 7pm, Arts Center Lecture Hall
Jon Rappleye's drawings depict fantastical worlds populated by familiar animals, exotic creatures and strange hybrid phenomena. Biological structures and functions are reanimated, exploring ecological issues and evoking a dream world landscape.

Nov 22 - Composite: The Object Jewelry Sale, 9am-8pm, Union Concourse
Jewelry and Metalsmithing students present (and sell) more than 500 pieces of jewelry using concrete as an artistic medium. Proceeds to support Object, a student-run metals organization seeking to bring visiting artists to UWM.

Nov 4 - Milwaukee LGBT Film/Video Festival Monthly Screening (See Main Attractions)

Nov 9 - Stephanie Barber Presents, 7pm, Union Theatre
Barber presents a selection of her films and videos. Her prodigious filmography is testament to the playful yet probing nature of her clever deconstructions of text, language, music, and the image.

Nov 12 - Carousel: the 4th Annual 35mm Slideshow Invitational, 7pm, Woodland Pattern Book Store
Invited participants, from diverse areas of expertise, are challenged to generate a slideshow. Previous slideshows have included: double projections; durational single image; live performance of all sort; and slide-projector-as-animator.

Viol consort, Fretwork, presents new work by British composer Orlando Goeff, which traces Sir Francis Drake's 1577 "journey of discovery" by interspersing Elizabethan music with conjectural music from the land's where Drake put ashore.
$25-$40 adults and seniors/$10-$20 students.

Nov 7 - UWM Jazz & Youth Jazz Ensembles with special guest Chris Vadala, 7:30pm, Mainstage Theatre
UWM Jazz & Youth Jazz Ensembles perform with special guest Chris Vadala, one of the country's foremost woodwind artists.
$12 general/$10 seniors, faculty and alumni/$8 students

Nov 7 - Wind Ensemble and Kettle Moraine High School Concert, 4pm, Helen Bader Concert Hall
UWM Bands welcome the Kettle Moraine HS Wind Ensemble and their conductor, Mr. Kevin. Erickson. Concert will include works by Leonard Bernstein, Michael Daugherty and Percy Grainger.

Nov 12-13 - Symphony Orchestra Concert with UWM Choirs, 7:30pm, Helen Bader Concert Hall
The Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Professor Margery Deutsch presents its annual concerts with the UWM Choirs.
$10 general/$7 seniors and non-UWM students, faculty and alumni. Free for UWM students with valid ID.

Nov 14 - UWM Presents: Vocal Arts Faculty Concert, 3pm, Cedarburg Cultural Center
Valerie Errante, soprano; Elena Abend, piano; René Izquierdo, classical guitar and Scott Cook, cello perform works by Purcell, Mahler and more.

Nov 19-21 - 44th Annual High School/Middle School Honors Band Festival, Helen Bader Concert Hall
The annual culminates in an Honors Band Festival includes a Middle School Honors Band concert at 1pm and a performance from the UWM Wind Ensemble and High School Honor Bands at 4pm on November 21. Guest conductor: Mark Davis Scatterday of the Eastman Wind Ensemble.
$10 general/$8 seniors, UWM faculty, staff and alumni/$6 students.

Nov 5-14 - Labworks Series: Short Cuts, 7:30pm Friday-Saturday; 2pm Sunday, Kenilworth Studio 508
An evening of David Ives' quirky, hilarious one acts. Ives' settings of contemporary situations and relationships will challenge actors and illuminate the audience. Directed by Raeleen McMillion.

Workshops and Continuing Education
Nov 5, 12, 19 - Friday Night Life Drawing, 7-10pm, Art Building 463
Draw the nude male or female figure from a variety of poses. Poses range from 1 minute to 25 minutes long. Non-instructional. Bring your own supplies. Drawing horses are available.
$7 per session or $30/5 sessions; $50/10 sessions;$80/20 sessions

Nov 6 - Double Reed Day, 8am-6pm, Helen Bader Concert Hall
The tenth annual Double Reed Day is open to double reed players of all ages and levels. The day includes master classes, rehearsals, vendors and a recital featuring UWM faculty and the Double Reed Day Ensemble.
