The Peck School of the Arts is at the center of the daily functioning of the University. Hundreds of performances, film screenings and exhibitions are offered each year by the Peck School to showcase your talents and to share your sense of pride and accomplishment. The School has a distinguished list of alumni active in all aspects of the arts and some who have pursued and been successful in professions outside the arts.

Tues, Sept 6-Sat, Oct 1 - Continuum 10: Jan Serr - About Face, Opening reception on Sun, 9/18 at 2-4 pm, including artist talk at 2:30pm, Inova/Arts Center Gallery Featuring work by Peck School of the Arts alumnae Jan Serr as she explores figurative painting. The exhibition will survey Serr's earlier work, and also include a large group of new figurative paintings, created specifically for this exhibition. Free
Sun, Sept 25 - Fine Arts Quartet, 3pm, Helen Bader Concert Hall The Fine Arts Quartet, guest cellist Desmond Hoebig and guest pianist Menachem Pressler perform works by Mozart, Herrmann and Dvorak. The concert will be preceded by a pre-concert talk at 2pm by former MSO principal bassoonist Stephen Basson. Free and open to the public. Reserved seats required.

Nohl Fund Fellowship for Individual Artists Exhibition, Opening reception 9/30 at 5-8pm, Inova/ Kenilworth This year's artists include: Paul Druecke, Brent Coughenour and Waldek Dynerman in the established category and Sarah Buccheri, Ashley Morgan, Neil Gravender, and Chris Thompson in the emerging category. Sun, Sept 18 - Music From Almost Yesterday Concert, 3pm, Recital Hall Presenting an Accordion 21st Century concert featuring Stas Venglevski and guest artists Mikhail Litvin, mandolin and Dana McCormick, piano. The concert includes an international repertory of chamber music with accordion and a premiere of Professor Emeritus Yehuda Yannay's "Suite for Mandolin and Accordion." Weds, Sept 14-Dec 7 - University Community Orchestra, 7-9:30pm, Zelazo 280 Calling all musicians! Join the University Community Orchestra! This ensemble invites advanced beginners (age 14 or older) or skilled amateurs to rehearse and perform together. It is open to anyone who can read music and enjoys playing classical symphonic repertoire. No audition necessary. Through Sun, Sept 18 - Greg Klassen Exhibition: Perishable Atlas, Inova/Kenilworth Klassen's recent paintings display bold color and gesture on a large scale, and the "natural" processes of gravity, evaporation, spillage, liquid pooling and osmosis play a significant role in his images. A student of Gerhard Richter's Dusseldorf studio in the early 1990s, Klassen shares that seminal postmodern artist's preoccupation with the peculiarities of abstraction. Free
Through Sun, Sept 18 - Martha Glowacki: Private Science, Inova/Kenilworth Martha Glowacki focuses on scientific discovery in the Victorian era, with a personalized take on the field. Her finely crafted sculptural work allows an eccentric entry point into various subjects like astronomical observation, bird migration, and the many natural "curiosities" that once commonly populated parlor cabinets. Sat, Aug 27 - Present Music Water Concert, 7pm, Marcus Center for the Performing Arts This free concert kicks off Present Music's 30th season and will inspire the audience to hear and see water in music, art, and dance. Peck School Music faculty Margaret Bulter, Mark Hoelscher, and Ann Lobotzke will perform in the Present Music Ensemble. Aug 31-Dec 31 - Current Tendencies II Artists from Milwaukee, Opening reception 8/31 at 6pm, Haggerty Museum of Art An exhibition featuring ten Milwaukee artists working in a variety of media, including work from Art & Design faculty Nathaniel Stern and Jessica Meuninck-Ganger. FreeSept 23-27 - Your Mother Dances: Stripped Roundly, Fri at 7:30pm, Sat-Sun at 3:30 and 7:30pm, Mon-Tues at 7:30, Mitchell 254 Stripped Roundly is a Contemporary Dance concert for our times. Artistic Director, ElizaBeth Johnson and Associate Artistic Director Luc Vanier - both Peck School of the Arts Dance faculty - present new works Impulsive Minors to Chopin nocturnes and Claire de Lune to Debussy and others respectively. In solidarity with cuts in education and arts education all over the country, all extra accoutrements of lighting and costuming are minimal leaving the moving body as the focal heart of all the work.
