MCT Presents Reading of THE BOY INSIDE, 10/13
True to its mission of nurturing local theatre artists, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre (MCT) presents the Montgomery Davis Play Development Series staged reading of THE BOY INSIDE, by Wisconsin playwright Richard Kalinoski on Oct. 13. Leda Hoffmann directs a cast of nine Milwaukee favorites including Doug Clemons, Di'Monte Henning, Carrie Hitchcock, Karl Iglesias, Dan Katula, Ryan Schabach, Deborah Staples, Noah Totzke and Tami Workentin.
In THE BOY INSIDE, the head coach of a college Division III football team is having his best season ever and vying for the national championship. His college president, a distinguished academic, suddenly asks him to stop his frenzied preparations and contemplate the violent implications of the sport. A series of unexpected clashes follows-where college president and seasoned football coach are led to re-examine their own prejudices and proclivities.
Playwright Richard Kalinoski is best known for his play BEAST ON THE MOON (produced by MCT in 1995) which has been translated into 17 languages and produced in cities all over the world, including Athens, Belgrade, Brussels, Buenos Aires, Moscow, New York, Prague, Sao Paolo and Toronto. A Wisconsin native, Kalinoski is currently based in Oshkosh and his other plays include BETWEEN MEN AND CATTLE, A CROOKED MAN, MY SOLDIERS and THE THOUSAND POUND MARRIAGE.
Leda Hoffmann makes her MCT directing debut with this new script. The cast features MCT favorites Carrie Hitchcock (DINNER WITH FRIENDS, A HOTEL ON MARVIN GARDENS), Dan Katula (THINGS BEING WHAT THEY ARE, MOON OVER THE BREWERY), Ryan Schabach (THINGS BEING WHAT THEY ARE) and Tami Workentin (THE SUBJECT WAS ROSES, PICNIC). Making their MCT debuts are Doug Clemons, Di'Monte Henning, Karl Iglesias, Deborah Staples and Noah Totzke.
THE BOY INSIDE will be performed on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in the Skylight Bar & Bistro, located on the second level of the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward. Tickets for the reading are Pay-What-You-Can at the door. Seating is first-come, first-served.
