CABARET, ASHER LEV et al. Set for Milwaukee Rep's Inaugural Season

Incoming Artistic Director Mark Clements announced Milwaukee Repertory Theater's 2010/11 season at a special Season Announcement Event held in The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse. The season includes two American Premieres, a classic of American theater, a play featuring triple threat Australian star Caroline O'Connor and the first ever full-scale musical to be staged on The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse stage.

In all, Milwaukee Repertory Theater will present 11 shows on three stages as well as the annual Milwaukee tradition A CHRISTMAS CAROL in the adjacent Pabst Theater and a new production titled Rep Lab, featuring The Rep's Artistic Intern Company. Milwaukee Repertory Theater's three stages include the Quadracci Powerhouse, Stiemke Studio and Stackner Cabaret.

CABARET, based on Christopher Isherwood's book "Goodbye To Berlin" will play from September 14 through October 24 in the Quadracci Powerhouse. This will be Artistic Director Mark Clements directorial debut. CABARET features a book by Joe Masteroff, Music by John Kander, and Lyrics by Fred Ebb.

Tom McGrath's LAUREL AND HARDY will receive its American Premiere at the Stackner Cabaret from September 24 through November 14. LAUREL & HARDY traces the key events that shaped the rise of the world's best-known comedy duo to Hollywood stardom.

MY NAME IS ASHER LEV will play from September 29 through November 14 at the Stiemke Studio and acclaimed Aaron Posner will direct. MY NAME IS ASHER LEV was written by Posner and adapted from the novel by Chaim Potok.

LIBERACE: THE MAN, THE MUSIC & THE MEMORIES, created by Wayland Pickard and Randy Nolen will play the Stackner Cabaret from November 19 through January 16. Wayland Pickard, an award-winning pianist, singer, entertainer and humorist, will appear in this one-man show, a piece he co-created.

Joanna Murray-Smith's BOMBSHELLS starring Award-winning triple threat Australian Caroline O'Connor (Nini in Baz Luhrmann's, Oscar-winning, "Moulin Rouge," and Ethel Merman in "De Lovely") will play the Quadracci Powerhouse from November 23 through December 19. Mark Clements will direct BOMBSHELL's American premiere.

From December 2 through December 26 the Pabst Theater will be home to the 35th Anniversary of the Rep's annual production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Former Rep Artistic Director Joe Hanreddy returns to The Rep to direct his adaptation of this holiday classic.

Alfred Hitchcock'S THE 39 STEPS, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan, the film of Alfred Hitchcock and the original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon, will play the Quadracci Powerhouse from January 11 through February 13. A cast of four actors play dozens of characters - as well as animals, geographical features and various meteorological phenomena. 39 STEPS is the winner of two Tony and Drama Desk Awards and the 2007 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.

Sandy Ernst will direct Lanie Robertson's NOBODY LONESOME FOR ME at the Stackner Cabaret from January 21 through March 13.

Other productions of the season will include Andrew Bovell's SPEAKING IN TONGUES (January 26 - March 13), August Wilson's Ma Rainey'S BLACK BOTTOM (March 1- March 27), THE BOMB-ITTY OF ERRORS (March 18 - May 8), THE REP LAB (April 1 - April 4), and Arthur Miller's DEATH OF A SALESMAN (April 12 - May 8).
