What happens when you take the Great American Songbook of Musical Theatre and hand it over to a collaboration of Broadway vocalists and global Jazz artists for fresh creative interpretation?
A night at The Encore Cabaret: Modern Jazz Meets Musical Theatre!

This event will bring together global jazz artist Kahil El’ Zabar’s Ethnic Heritage Ensemble, Musical Theatre vocalists: Jessica Grové - our own Encore star; Michael McElroy - Chair of the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance; Jason Briggs - Encore's Managing Director and star of Smokey Joe's Café and Queen; and Arielle Crosby - A native of Detroit who is on Broadwayworld.com's list of "People To Watch in Cabaret and Concert in 2022"; and the incomparable Jazz vocalist Dwight Trible, all the way from Los Angeles.

Songs will include such classics as:
All That Jazz, Some Enchanted Evening, All the Things You Are, Route 66 and many more...

"We are extremely fortunate to have assembled this level of elite talent on the Encore stage," says board member and co-producer, Steve Elliott, "Jazz, which is America’s only indigenous art form, and Musical Theatre have influenced each other for over 100 years, and that process continues with a truly unique experience at The Encore! We envision these performances to be the beginning of a longer term initiative to create original productions around the interplay of Jazz and Musical Theatre."

Geoff Packard
GEOFF PACKARD returns to The Encore Stage after performing, along with his wife and fellow Broadway vet, Chelsea, in The Encore’s holiday concert, MERRY & BRIGHT, and directing last summer’s BROADWAY ROCKS! Geoff is an Assistant Professor of Acting/Directing at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. As an actor, he has been seen on Broadway in BANDSTAND, MATILDA, ROCK OF AGES, and PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, as well as the First National Tour of WICKED, performing in theatres such as: Papermill Playhouse, Goodman Theatre, Arena Stage, Shakespeare Theatre (DC), Ford's Theatre, Lookingglass Theatre, Signature Theatre (DC), Huntington Theatre, Court Theatre, Bucks County Playhouse, KC Rep, and Goodspeed Opera House. As a director Geoff has worked on WATER BY THE SPOONFUL, THE EXONERATED, MYTHS AND HYMNS, and FOR THE RECORD at UM; he served as Associate Director on the pre-broadway production of HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL, which made it's debut at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. Geoff has a Joseph Jefferson Award (Chicago) a Helen Hayes Award (DC) and a IRNE Award (Boston) for Leading Actor in a Musical. BFA: University of Cincinnati (CCM) MFA: SUNY Stony Brook.

Scott Anthony Joy is thrilled to be making music at The Encore! Leah Olsen
LEAH OLSEN is thrilled to be making her debut on The Encore stage for this tribute concert, and looks forward to joining the cast of The Encore’s upcoming production of A THOUSAND FACES. She's lived and performed in California, New York, and Japan, and is happy to be calling Michigan home again. Favorite past credits include playing Olga Donati in TRUFFLES OFF-BROADWAY, a Hippie in HAIR, and tap dancing in SOMETHING ROTTEN. Thank you for coming out tonight to support live theatre!
Tyler J. Messinger
TYLER J. MESSINGER returns to The Encore after his performance in last fall’s hit QUEEN TRIBUTE CONCERT. Other Encore credits include SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ, THE SECRET GARDEN, FUN HOME and last summer’s Back to Broadway concerts SOME ENCHANTED EVENING and BROADWAY ROCKS! . Tyler studied musical theatre at Roosevelt University, Chicago College of Performing Arts with an emphasis on voice. His credits there include INTO THE WOODS and STAGE DOOR; he has also performed with Chicago’s Rest of the Wood Theatre. He is thrilled to be back on stage and welcomes you to The Encore’s new home.

The Encore Musical Theatre Company is Southeast Michigan’s premier professional musical theatre, committed to producing high-quality musicals and live music performances that entertain, inspire, and bring communities together. Recognized by the performers’ union, Actors’ Equity Association, The Encore is a not-for-profit professional musical theatre company located in historic Dexter, Michigan. Our mission is to create the highest quality theatrical productions with an emphasis on musical theatre, utilizing both nationally and locally sourced professional artists to bring stories to life in our uniquely intimate space.

The Encore was founded in 2008 by Broadway actor Dan Cooney and local residents Anne and Paul Koch. All three shared a love for the charming “Village of Dexter” and a belief that what would make it even more vibrant was a theater. Over the past 15 years, the Encore has produced over 190 productions, concerts and other special events, including many Golden Age classics, powerful contemporary musicals, new works, and diverse concert offerings.

In our 15-year history, we have played host to many Broadway and award-winning artists including Tony Walton (Tony, Emmy and Oscar winner), Jeremy Jordan (Newsies, Smash, Supergirl), Kahil El’Zabar (legendary modern jazz multi-instrumentalist), Kathie Lee Gifford (Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee, Daytime Emmy winner), Alice Ripley (Tony Award-winning Broadway actor), John McDaniel (The Rosie O’Donnell Show, Emmy and Grammy winner), Telly Leung (Aladdin, Glee), Jessica Grové (The Wizard of Oz, Thoroughly Modern Millie), Erika Henningsen (Mean Girls), Gary Adler (Avenue Q, Alter Boyz), Aaron LaVigne (Jesus Christ Superstar), Janet Allard (Playwright, Fulbright Fellow), Niko Tsakalakos (Composer/Lyricist), Larry Gatlin (The Gatlin Brothers), Conor Ryan (Moulin Rouge), Ali Ewoldt (The Phantom of the Opera), Hugh Panaro (The Phantom of the Opera) and many others.

The Encore is home to a successful Summer Theatre Program that began in 2010, educating children ages 5-18 each summer. The popular program has grown to over 150 students yearly, and provides a nurturing and safe space for children to create, explore, make lasting friendships and build their confidence.

Thanks to a great deal of community support, The Encore continues to thrive and contribute significantly to the economic and cultural richness of Dexter and Southeast Michigan.
