The three-time Grammy Award-winning, genre-defying collective Snarky Puppy returns to Hill Auditorium to perform music from its latest release, Immigrance.

A Brooklyn-based collective that grew out of the celebrated jazz program at the University of North Texas, the band - which features a rotating cast of musicians playing guitars, percussion, horns, keyboards, and strings - represents the convergence of both black and white American music culture with various accents from around the world. Displaying a rare and delicate mixture of sophisticated composition, harmony, and improvisation, the ensemble's influences include gospel, R&B, jazz, funk, and rock. Its musicians have performed with Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Kirk Franklin, and Justin Timberlake, among others.

Amadeus

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra and UMS Choral Union will perform the live score for a screening of the eight-time Acadamy Award-winning 1984 motion picture classic Amadeus.

The film tells the story of Vienna court composer, Antonio Salieri and the envy that consumes him upon discovering that the divine musical gifts he has so longed for all his life have been bestowed on a bawdy, vulgar, and impish young composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (played by Plymouth, Michigan native Tom Hulce). Salieri's envy fuels his plot to destroy the man, though it simultaneously leaves him unable to tear himself away from the genius of Mozart's music.

The score contains some of Mozart's greatest works, including The Magic Flute, his Symphony No. 25, Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, and his famous Requiem.

Amadeus was named one of the American Film Institute's best 100 movies of the 20th century and remains one of the most beloved films of all time.

Rated PG, 180 minutes (including intermission).

Lifting the curtain on a world of jealousy and ambition, this new production from one of the world's most innovative theater directors, Ivo van Hove, explores our fascination with celebrity, youth, and identity, and why they never seem to get old.
