Due to some unexpected scheduling conflicts, The New Theatre Project has announced some significant changes in the previously planned staged reading event of Mother Courage and Her Children.

The event, now titled Mother Courage in Concert, will be held at Elmo's Hideaway, 220 S. Main St. on the same date previously announced, Sunday, September 19 at 6 pm. Mother Courage in Concert will celebrate the spirit of Brecht's play using the music as the focus. Original music will be composed by New Ensemble member's Caleb Kruzel and Amanda Lyn Jungquist. Special guest performers will be announced from the stage. The concert will be directed by Keith Paul Medelis with assistance from ensemble member's Ben Stange and Austin Michael Tracy.

Dr. Pirooz Aghssa will still be joining us for a preshow discussion of Brecht and his work. Dr. Aghssa has taught at Eastern Michigan University for eleven years where he has directed, among many others, Angels in America: Millenium Approaches by Kushner and Brecht on Brecht; the latter was covered by the International Brecht Society. In 2009, Dr. Aghssa's review of Kushner's The
Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis was published in the International Brecht Society's Quarterly.

TNTP will also still host a free screening of the film Theatre of War at the downtown Ann Arbor District Library's Freespace at 7 pm on Wednesday, September 8. The film documents the life and work of Bertolt Brecht with commentary and scenes from the recent Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline production of Mother Courage in Central Park.

Additionally, The New Theatre Project has joined forces with Ann Arbor's 5th Annual Peace Day taking place on the University of Michigan's Diag. Selections from Mother Courage in Concert will be performed. Stop by TNTP's table from noon-4 pm for a special ticket offer.

Mother Courage in Concert is now a pay-what-you-can event. Reservations for the show as well as the movie screening can be made by contacting tickets@thenewtheatreproject.org or calling (810) 623-0909. At this time, we can accept cash or check only.
