The Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival and the Grand Rapids Symphony announce a new collaboration for the next season of programs.

The Gilmore will work with the Grand Rapids Symphony as an artistic partner on selected programs featuring world-renowned pianists. These performances, called "The Pianists," will combine The Gilmore's long history of piano programming with the Symphony's orchestral expertise to produce unique and exciting concert experiences.

The first collaboration takes place as a special event in the lead-up to the 2020 Gilmore Keyboard Festival, on Sunday, April 19, 2020 at DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids. The Grand Rapids Symphony will perform with Music Director Marcelo Lehninger and 2006 Gilmore Artist Ingrid Fliter on piano. The program will feature works for solo piano, plus two piano concertos: Beethoven's Sonata No. 17 in D Minor, Op. 31, No. 2 ("Tempest"); Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major and Schumann's Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 53.

"The Gilmore is delighted to deepen our longstanding relationship with the Grand Rapids Symphony in this very special way. This kind of programming fits perfectly with the experiences we want to offer at the Festival. Ingrid Fliter is a true favorite of many Festival goers, and this is an opportunity to see her powerful musical voice on full display."

Pierre van der Westhuizen, Director, The Gilmore

Tickets for this performance are on sale now and available at www.grsymphony.org or by calling the Grand Rapids Symphony ticket office at (616) 454-9451 ext. 4.

Located in Kalamazoo, MI, The Gilmore presents a biennial piano festival, bringing together some of the world's most sought-after classical, jazz, and contemporary keyboard artists, as well as a Rising Stars recital series, Piano Masters Series, and music education events and programs for children and adults. The Gilmore Awards are the legacy of Irving S. Gilmore, a Kalamazoo businessman and philanthropist, whose special devotion to keyboard music and its musicians inspired the creation of the biennial Gilmore Keyboard Festival and the Gilmore Artist and Gilmore Young Artist Awards in 1989. The next Gilmore Keyboard Festival will take place April-May 2020. More information can be found at thegilmore.org.
