After a successful run in 2011 at Chicago's About Face Theatre, The Ringwald is thrilled to bring the Michigan premiere of Philip Dawkins play, The Homosexuals, to Detroit. Filled with a dynamic cast of local actors, The Homosexuals is directed by local favorite, Annette Madias (The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, The Normal Heart). The Homosexuals plays November 16 - December 10, 2012 at The Ringwald Theatre, 22742 Woodward Avenue in downtown Ferndale. Tickets are currently available at www.TheRingwald.com.

The Homosexuals is a comedic and heartwarming work for anyone who's ever fallen in love with a friend. The play follows Evan, a young gay man who moves to the Midwest with nothing but the shirt on his back. When a kind man invites him to a party his first night in town-the circle of friends he meets that night have impact on his life that he (nor we) could ever imagine. Chicago playwright Dawkins' epic play examines the fears, doubts and hopes facing the gay community in the 21st century in this modern-day riff on the queer classic The Boys In The Band.

Playwright Philip Dawkins describes the play this way: The Homosexuals is about "a guy who's been in a dark room for his whole life, and suddenly a window opens up and lets in light. It's scary and beautiful and now everything is different and maybe it hurts a little too. The dark room was his upbringing. And all these people are his window."

The Homosexuals opens Friday, November 16th and plays through Monday, December 10th at 8pm on Friday, Saturday and Monday nights with 3pm Sunday matinees.

Ticket prices are $20.00 for Friday and Saturday performances, $15 for Sunday shows, and Monday nights are HALF OFF the original ticket price at only $10 a ticket. All students can now receive a $5 discount off normal ticket price on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday performances (available at the box office the day of the show with valid student ID). Tickets can be purchased at www.TheRingwald.com or at the theatre box office. The Ringwald box office opens 45 minutes before performances and tickets can be purchased with cash or Visa/Mastercard.

The Ringwald opened their doors five years ago on May 11, 2007 with Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy. Quickly, The Ringwald became a mainstay of Detroit's theatre community. Past Productions include: Southern Baptist Sissies, Jeffrey, Based on a Totally True Story, Love! Valour! Compassion!, The Little Dog Laughed and RENT. The Ringwald was named 2009 and 2012 Best Theatrical Troupe by Real Detroit and Best Place to See Local Theatre in 2010, 2011 and 2012 by the readers of Metro Times.
