SIGUR RÓS Comes to Detroit, 4/1
Today, SIGUR RÓS officially announced their biggest North American tour to date this spring, which includes a stop at Detroit's Fox Theatre on Monday, April 1st at 7:30 p.m. A complete itinerary follows this release.
Tickets ($36 and $51) go on sale Friday, November 16th at 10 a.m. and can be purchased at OlympiaEntertainment.com, LiveNation.com, The Fox Theatre and Joe Louis Arena box offices, Hockeytown Authentics in Troy (without service charge) at all Ticketmaster locations and Ticketmaster.com. To charge tickets by phone, call (800) 745-3000. For additional information, call (313) 471-6611.
Sigur Rós consists of Jón þor (jónsi) Birgisson (vocals, guitars), Kjartan (kjarri) Sveinsson (keyboards), Orri Páll Dýrason (drums) and Georg (goggi) Holm (bass). The band was formed by Jónsi, Georg and original drummer Ágúst in 1994. They were later joined by Kjartan and when Ægúst left the band after the recording of Ágætis Byrjun, he was replaced by Orri. Sigur Rós hail from Iceland, and strive showcase the beautiful landscape of their homeland with their music.
The band recently debuted a new song, "Brennisteinn," at this year's Iceland Airwaves Festival. Click here to watch footage of this incredible track, which was greeted with immediate praise upon being posted online.
"Brennisteinn' ("Brimstone") was violent, rude and irresistible; slow mourning rock with bass tones so low and loud they rattled the floor, cut with a stubbornly delicate romanticism," said Rolling Stone's David Fricke about the new track. "But just as the end seemed near and you expect the band to stomp off into their usual ether, the rhythm changed for the faster, with the bassist Georg Holm and drummer Orri Páll Dýrason locking in a brisk, extended techno surge. Metal and dancing are the last things you expect at a SIGUR RÓS gig; both suit them. They should keep it up."
