Photo Flash: First Look At The Sauk's LORD OF THE FLIES

By:

One of the greatest novels in literature comes to life this weekend and next as The Sauk (Hillsdale County's community theatre) presents William Golding's LORD OF THE FLIES, adapted for the stage by Nigel Williams.

Based on the celebrated novel by William Golding, this coming of age tale of the breakdown of civilized behavior in a setting of isolation and fear highlights the contrast between cooperation and competition. The story is set against the background of some type of nuclear war and a plane crash that forces a group of boys to cope with the human need for society and the animal need for survival. While protecting themselves from the outward threat of the island "beast," they discover that the real threat is their own primitive impulses.

The youthful cast is led by Noah Honeywell as Ralph, Jonah VanderHoff as Piggy, Jacob Boswell as Jack, Timothy Favreau as Simon, Isaiah Brown as Roger, Keegan Oxley as Sam and Tyson Duff as Eric. The cast also includes Ashton Forant as Maurice, Noah Bryant as Henry, Noah VanKampen as Bill and Jacob Gray as Perceval. Nathan Johnson and Myles Thomas portray naval officers. Honeywell, Favreau, Bryant, Gray and Thomas are all making their Sauk debuts.

The production is directed by Trinity Bird with stage management by Mandee Leigh Howard. The design team consists of Bruce Crews (set), Gianna Marchese (costumes), Tracy McCullough (lights), MJ Dulmage (sound), Travis Blatchley (props) and Allison Cleveland (makeup).

Performances are at 8 p.m. on October 11, 12, 17-19 with 3 p.m. matinees on October 13 and 20. All performances take place at the Sauk Theatre, 240 E. Chicago St. in Jonesville, Mich. Thursday through Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees are at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (55 and up) and students (with a valid i.d.) and $8 for children (12 and under). Tickets can be purchased at www.thesauk.org or by calling 517-849-9100. The October 10 performance is a "Pay What You Can" preview. Preview tickets are not sold in advance. The October 17 performance is $5 senior night.
