Oakland Symphony Orchestra to Open 2013-14 Season with Works by Britten, Brahms & Shostakovich
On Sunday, Oct. 6, the Oakland Symphony Orchestra (OSO) will open its 2013-14 season with moving performances of major works by Benjamin Britten, Johannes Brahms and Dmitri Shostakovich.Some of OU's finest student musicians will play alongside accomplished professional musicians, including OU faculty members, under the direction of Gregory Cunningham. The concert will feature Britten's "Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes," Op. 33a; Brahms' "Variations on a Theme of Joseph Haydn," Op. 56a; and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 in D minor, Op. 47.The event will take place at 3 p.m. in Varner Recital Hall on the Oakland University campus, where ample free parking is available.
