OSO, Oakland Symphony Chorus & Madrigal Chorale to Perform Together, 4/5

By:
At 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, the Oakland Symphony Orchestra (OSO), the Oakland Symphony Chorus and Madrigal Chorale will perform at Orchestra Hall, the home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, with Gregory Cunningham, conductor.

The Oakland Symphony Orchestra will perform Suite from Henry V by William Walton (arranged by Muir Mathieson). The OSO and the Oakland Symphony Chorus and Madrigal Chorale will present Alexander Nevsky by Sergei Prokofiev.

Alexander Nevsky was originally composed as the score for Sergei Eisenstein's 1938 film Alexander Nevsky. In 1939, Prokofiev arranged the score for the cantata, Alexander Nevsky, Op. 78, for mezzo-soprano, chorus, and orchestra, with most of the score's songs written by the poet Vladimir Lugovskoy. It is one of the most renowned cantatas of the twentieth century, and one of only a very few examples of film music to find a permanent place in the classical repertoire.

Orchestra Hall is in the Max M. Fisher Music Center, at 3711 Woodward Avenue, in downtown Detroit. There is a parking structure adjacent to the hall. Directions and parking information is available on the Detroit Symphony Orchestra website.

Tickets are $20 and $10 for students. They may be purchased online without service fees at startickets.com or by phone at (800) 585-3737. They can also be purchased at the Varner Box Office on OU's campus. Tickets ordered in advance may be picked up at Orchestra Hall one hour before the performance. Tickets will also be on sale during that time.
