The New McCree Theatre recently announced upcoming events which will feature Charles H. Winfrey being awarded the "Community Pioneer" award, a production of A TRIBUTE TO MOWTOWNAN AMERICAN DREAM STORY, and the continuing radio program "African American Inspiration."
New McCree Theatre Executive Director, Charles H. Winfrey, has been selected to receive the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Flint Chapter's "Community Pioneer" award. According to literature published by the NANBPW the award "is designed to recognize an individual who has played a leadership role in the early development of an organization, business, idea... and to provide stimulus for others to be creative and to be willing to explore different challenges." The award will be presented at the NANBPW's 49th Annual Sojourner Truth Founder's Day Awards Luncheon to be held Saturday, April 10, 2010, at 11:45a.m. at the Stonegate Banquet Center, 1084 Irish Road, Davison, MI. Guest tickets can be purchased by calling Louise Herron at (810) 743-9683 or Janet Felton at (810) 789-0601.This new musical takes you back to the early days of what became Motown Records and reacquaints those who were youngsters or young adults in the sixties and seventies with all of the beautiful music you grew up with. Songs like "My Guy," "Stubborn Kind of Fellow," "Shop Around," "Please Mr. Postman," and, "Money" and many, many more provide the musical score for this production. The story, however, lies in the symbolism Motown Records conveys to a people struggling to realize their full potential. It serves as a shining example of what a willing group of people can build when they decide to combine their ideas, dreams, talents and gifts to create something great.
