New Detroit Play Discusses Intercultural Relationships in Black and Latino Communities
Black and Brown Theatre, a local professional theatre for theatre artists of color, will present the brand new stage play Mamacita August 4th-6th, 2017 at the Matrix Theatre (2730 Bagley Ave, Detroit, MI). The play stars Wayne State senior theatre student and Detroit native, Kayla Mundy as well as Southwest Detroit area actor, Justino Solis.
The brand new stage play explores the challenges and triumphs of maintaining an intercultural relationship in America. When the charismatic, "Barrio Boy" Ricky and shy, romantic poet Bianca fall in love, they embark on a journey of obstacles and successes that serve as a metaphor for the too often unexplored race relations of Black and Latino communities.
Mamacita, by Detroit area playwright Emilio Rodriguez, was selected for the Lark's 2016 Playwrights Week in New York and was featured in the 2016 Great Plains Conference in Omaha, Nebraska and the 2016 Austin New Latino Play Festival in Austin, Texas. This will be the first performance of Mamacita in the Midwest.
Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 at www.BlackandBrownTheatre.org or for $15 cash at the door.
