Musiq Soulchild was among the group of R&B artists who arrived during the early 2000's. Born Taalib Johnson, Soulchild grew up in Philadelphia, raised in a household that educated him in '70s soul. Inspired by the likes of D'Angelo and Lauryn Hill, he applied his musical upbringing to a love for non-commercial hip-hop and refined his romantic and affable everyman style across six albums, four of them going either gold or platinum. A steady singer and songwriter, Soulchild has earned 11 Grammy Award nominations.
