Michigan State University Department of Theatre Presents JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, 10/12-21

By:

A magical peach! An extraordinary adventure! Giant lovable insect friends! All of this and more in MSU's imaginative production of the treasured Roald Dahl family classic James and the Giant Peach. Performances will be held on October 12 - 21 at the Pasant Theatre at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts. The production runs approximately 80 minutes and is recommended for all children aged 4 to 400.

A ravenous rhinoceros, horrible aunts, a lonely existence: poor James is miserable… until magic spills on an old peach tree and strange things start to happen. A peach grows and grows to the size of a house, and when James crawls inside he finds a gang of spectacular talking insects! With a little nibbling of the stem, the peach begins to roll away and the marvelous trans-Atlantic journey begins. Audiences learn about the wickedness of some and the goodness of others as they follow James, the wise old Grasshopper, the pessimistic Earthworm and many others on their spectacular adventure.

This giant peach is helmed by director Edward Daranyi, guest artist from the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Head of the acting program, Rob Roznowski says "it is so exciting to have him back after last year's stellar production of The Beaux' Stratagem. Edward's experience and unique approach to production affords an amazing opportunity for both our acting and design students". Utilizing fantastic costumes, vegetable orchestras, outrageous props, original animations and of course, wonderful performances; this production promises to delight your eyes, ears and imagination!

Director and designer pre-show talks and talkbacks with The Cast will take place during the run. Tickets and all performance information can be found at theatre.msu.edu.
