Magenta Giraffe Theatre Company is thrilled to announce its September and October "Drop In and Pay What You Can" workshops! No reservations needed, no commitment; just stop by, have an actor workout, and network with other local professionals. Each three-hour workshop is designed for the theatre professional who never knows when he or she might have rehearsal... or a callback... or a paying job! Drop in, pay what you can at the door, and spend some time refining your craft!

All workshops in August will run on Monday evenings, with the exceptions of September 6 and 20, from 7-10 p.m., at 1515 Broadway, Detroit, MI 48226. For more information, contact Magenta Giraffe Educational Director Lisa Melinn at 313-408-7269 or lisa@magentagiraffe.org.

Description of Workshops:

Acting Through Body Language: Get comfortable working physically! This workshop will deal with physical action and how it relates to developing character, expressing character and expressing intention without words. We'll also use music and other exercises to engage with your physical self.

Kamikaze Improv!: Learn to think fast on your feet, roll with the punches, and work organically and spontaneously! We will explore the fundamentals of comedic improvisation while we play fast-paced games made famous on TV's Whose Line Is it Anyway?

Coloring the "Where": Examine developing character through atmosphere, using the environment to heighten emotion, and interacting organically with our surroundings.

Business of Acting: How do I get an agent? How do I move past extra-work, and start auditioning for speaking roles? Where do I get professional looking headshots? We will answer ALL of your questions about "breaking into the ‘biz'!"

Monologue Writing: How many times have you struggled to find an audition piece that you truly like? Cut out all the searching and START WRITING! Come armed with pens and paper and get ready to create your own dynamic characters, compelling dialogue, and dramatic situations.

Kamikaze Stanislavsky: the Man, the Myth, the Method: A bite-sized tasting of each of Stanislavsky's five core concepts from emotion memory through active analysis. An exciting introduction to the father of Russian acting technique, after whose theories major American acting teachers such as Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, Sanford Meisner and Bobby Lewis modeled their techniques.
