MIFA High School State One-Act Competition Held At Midland Center

By: Feb. 10, 2010

The best and brightest high school theatre groups will perform at Midland Center for the Arts during the Michigan Interscholastic Forensics Association (MIFA) High School State One-Act Competition on February 19 - 10:00 am to 8:30 pm; and February 20 - 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Thirteen high schools from across the state will compete during the two-day competition. To reach the state level, theatre students must first vie in district and regional MIFA competitions.

"I participated in MIFA competitions when I was at Midland High. They were such fun and a great chance to watch fellow performers. We always came away with fresh ideas and energized for our next show!" says Theatre Guild Communications Coordinator Emily Anderson. "The last time we hosted this competition was in 1999. Theatre Guild and Midland Center for the Arts are proud to support youth arts programs by providing a beautiful facility where this event can take place."

Performances are each a maximum of 45 minutes; a complete schedule for the weekend's performances will be available on Friday, February 19. Admission is FREE and open to the public. Not every show will be appropriate for every age level, so parents should use discretion when bringing grade school children. For more information visit www.mfta.org or www.themifa.org.
