Emergent Arts Hosts Peter Knox in Thom Pain October 17-19

By:

Emergent Arts and The Mix Studio Theatre will host Horn Rim Productions' Peter Knox in Thom Pain (Based On Nothing) by Will Eno, directed by Ron Miller, October 17th, 18th and 19th at 8:00 pm. at The Mix Studio Theatre 8 North Washington St.,Ypsilanti, MI. He's just like you, except worse. He is trying to save his life, to save your life-in that order. In his quest for salvation, he'll stop at nothing, be distracted by nothing, except maybe a piece of lint, or the woman in the second row.

Thom Pain (based on nothing) by Will Eno was a 2005 Pulitzer Prize nominee for Drama. This one man show is a journey into the ruminations of a man suffering life's mundane tragedies. Drawing portraits of his life experiences yet concluding nothing from them this lonely figure vamps on the "what ifs" of his life. Eno's extended monologue is original, challenging, and deftly dark and comical.

Jenn McKee of AnnArbor.com praised Knox in Emergent Arts' 2009 Waiting For Godot for "delivering a show-stopping version of Lucky's "think" speech". Peter has performed in the Ann Arbor and Detroit area since the mid-80s with the Performance Network, Young Peoples' Theatre, Detroit Repertory Theatre, the Encore Musical Theatre, and others.

Director Ron Miller was part of the original group that created The Performance Network. Ron taught theatre and performance at Western College of Miami University and has directed for Performance Network ("Heart of a Dog" "Tom Paine" "Comings and Goings" original scripts by Rachelle Urist, Lynn Coffin and Al Sjoerdsma) and also for Washtenaw Community College ("Exit The King"," Doubt", "The Real Inspector Hound", and True West").

The NYTimes called Will Eno "a Samuel Beckett for the Jon Stewart generation." and Thom Pain "an odd, bewitching beauty, an affirmation of life's worth." Caesura blog calls Thom Pain "...a piece that has profound, long lasting impact. With it's seemingly discordant rhythms, Thom Pain mirrors the shameless cruelty, the cruel hilarity, and the hilarious complexity just as well as it reflects the enchanting mystery, the mysterious beauty, and the beautiful simplicity that is life." Chicago Theatre Beat says "The show will echo in your mind long after lights out on the stage and later lights out in your bedroom."
