"Shawn Burr, like Ernie, is an inspirational figure in the Detroit sports scene," said Mitch Albom, creator and playwright of Ernie. "His continued concern for others even as he battles a difficult cancer is something to celebrate. I can't imagine a more logical pairing of stories to help Shawn's foundation, and we are proud to donate all the proceeds from the June 19th show to that cause."
The evening will also include "Ernie Extras" such as a:
· Pre-show limited-edition silent auction for a signed Detroit Red Wings and 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic jersey; auction items will also include other authentic and autographed sports memorabilia· Meet-and-Greet and autograph opportunity with Red Wings alumnus Ted Lindsay for $10
Burr, a Detroit Red Wing from 1986-1995, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2011 and has since dedicated his charity to helping support cancer research. For more information about Shawn Burr's story or the foundation, visit shawnburrfoundation.org.
Ernie, dedicated to the late and beloved Hall of Fame Detroit Tiger announcer, Ernie Harwell, is set on Harwell's last night at Comerica Park in September of 2009, prior to his moving thank you speech to his adopted and beloved city of Detroit. Just before he walks onto the grassy field, he encounters an unusual boy who is eager to know all about him, coaxing Harwell into giving one final broadcast - the "broadcast of his life".
