Detroit's Ringwald Seeks Directors for June Gay Play Series

By:

The planning is well underway for The Ringwald's 3rd Annual Gay Play Series (GPS). With their largest submission pool yet (175), they are winnowing down scripts for production. On Sunday, April 22 at 4:00PM, The Ringwald will host an informational GPS meeting for anyone who is interested in directing a short play as part of this year's festival.

This year's GPS will take place in mid-June (exact dates and details to be announced soon). Scripts will be available at the meeting and all questions will be addressed.

The plays produced at GPS will be rated by the audience and the favorite play will be given a full run during The Ringwald Theatre's 2012/2013 Season!

GPS started in 2010 with 5 plays being produced from a pool of 17. The winning script that first year was My Dull Friend by Margaret Edwartowski, directed by Gary Lehman. Forty-four scripts were received in 2011 and of those submitted, 9 were produced. The second winning script was A Few Survivors by Jason Sebacher, directed by Harry Wetzel. GPS also features the popular Motown Miscast Cabaret and other GLBT programming.

The Ringwald opened their doors five years ago in May of 2007 with Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy. Quickly, The Ringwald became a mainstay of Detroit's theatre community. Past Productions include: Southern Baptist Sissies, Some Men, Sordid Lives! It's a Drag, Mercury Fur, The Facts of Life: The Lost Episode, The Bad Seed, The Book of Liz, Rent, and Thank You for Being a Friend. Who Wants Cake? was named 2009 and 2012 Best Theatrical Troupe by Real Detroit and Best Place to See Local Theatre in 2009 and 2010 by the readers of Metro Times.
