Blair Underwood, Ruben Santiago-Hudson & More Set for THE DETROIT PROJECT Events

Native Detroiter and Internationally Awarded Playwright, Actress and Television Writer Dominique Morisseau is returning home with Blair Underwood, Andre Holland and Ruben Santiago-Hudson for a public of event around her cycle of Detroit plays, entitled "The Detroit Project". The first acclaimed play in the cycle, DETROIT '67, about the 1967 uprising, is premiering in Detroit May 13-June 5th with the Detroit Public Theatre at the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center.

As a kick-off to this production, The Detroit Public Library, Detroit Historical Society, Wayne State University, and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in association with the Detroit Public Theatre and FreeDom's Daughter Productions present:

"CAPTURING DETROIT: Owning the Narrative of Our City" - A Free Public Conversation with Blair Underwood (AGENTS of Shield), Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Low Winter Sun, Lakawanna Blues), Andre Holland (Selma, HBO's The Knick), Marlowe Stoudamire (DHS - Detroit 67 Project) and Native Detroiter/International Playwright and TV Writer Dominique Morisseau (DETROIT '67 play), moderated by Legendary Poet/Publisher Jessica Care Moore.

This FREE event, held on April 17th at 4pm at the Charles. H. Wright Museum's General Motors Theatre, will be an open dialogue/conversation around Ms. Morisseau's work, discussing her nationally acclaimed cycle of Detroit plays, and the impact that these stories and others have on shaping the narrative of Detroit.

Blair Underwood, Andre Holland and Ruben Santiago-Hudson have all participated in Ms. Morisseau's Detroit cycle. Santiago-Hudson directed Holland and Underwood (as the starring role of Blue) in Morisseau's play PARADISE BLUE, about the urban renewal of Paradise Valley, at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in July 2015. Santiago-Hudson also recently directed SKELETON CREW, Morisseau's final play in the trilogy about the auto-industry in 2008, which received rave reviews Off-Broadway in NYC at Atlantic Theatre Company and is returning by popular demand in May 2016.

This public conversation is the kick-off for a series of public conversations that will be continued by the Detroit Public Theatre's production of the play DETROIT '67, May 13 - June 5. More info on the play can be found here at www.detroitpublictheatre.org.
