"The News in Revue"-Scoops to Coconut Grove Playhouse

By: Jan. 04, 2006

HIT MUSICAL "THE NEWS IN REVUE, THE MUSICAL SCOOP"

SET TO OPEN FIVE WEEK RUN, JANUARY 11, AT INTIMATE

ENCORE ROOM OF COCONUT GROVE PLAYHOUSE

THE NEWS IN REVUE, the hilarious musical political revue which scored a smash critical success last season at the Hollywood Playhouse, is announced to open, Wednesday, January 11, for an extended five week-run, in the Encore Room of the Coconut Grove Playhouse. The move to the Grove was necessitated by hurricane damage to the Hollywood Playhouse and to the theatre's plans for reorganization.

Under the musical direction of Brian Swayze, the cast of four includes Brandon Cusma, Ryan Cutlip, Amanda Danskin and Jill Donnelly.

Subtitled "The Musical Scoop," the sketches and songs, set to the tunes of top Broadway shows, cheerfully tear into current headlines with no subject sacred to the fast-paced satirical talents of the dynamic cast. Political cows, media darlings, food fads and celebrities are all equally skewered in the spirit of delivering non-stop laughs,

A solid hit, THE NEWS IN REVUE had earlier made theatrical history for its thirteen seasons at the Cranwell Resort in the Berkshires, in clubs across the U.S. and for the Emmy award it scored when it was aired on TV. In its South Florida production at the Hollywood Playhouse, THE NEWS IN REVUE scored solid reviews and played to capacity audiences,

Performances will be Wednesday, Thursday at 8:30 P.M., Friday at 7 and 10 P.M., Saturday at 2:30 and 8:30 P.M., and Sunday at 2:30 and 6:30 P.M. Tickets priced at $35 and $40 are available at the Coconut Grove Playhouse, 3500 Main Highway, Coconut Grove (305) 442-4000, or online at www.cgplayhouse.org.
