SELLS OUT LIMITED 6-WEEK
ENGAGEMENT IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA

 

 TOURING ENGAGEMENT IS THE HIGHEST GROSSING THEATRICAL PRODUCTION IN ORLANDO'S THEATER HISTORY

 

NEXT STOPS ARE FT MYERS IN JANUARY

AND JACKSONVILLE IN MARCH

 

Orlando, FL January 10, 2006—With seven performances still remaining for the run, THE LION KING has already completely sold out its six week engagement at the Carr Performing Arts Centre.

By the time it completes its run in Orlando on Sunday, January 14, THE LION KING will have entertained a total audience of more than 99,000 people with a "touring extravaganza that is a triumph of creativity, a feast for the eyes," according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Making a major economic impact on the city of Orlando, THE LION KING drew thousands of first-time theatergoers and many travelers from all over the world to see this show.

"Selling out six solid weeks and bringing almost 100,000 people downtown to see one of Broadway's largest and most spectacular productions is a great sign that Orlando is emerging as a premier region for touring productions, " said Ron Legler, President and CEO of Florida Theatrical Association.

"We are thrilled that people in communities all across the country continue to embrace THE LION KING," said Jack Eldon, Vice President, Domestic Touring, Disney Theatrical Productions.  "We are excited to give so many first-time and regular theatergoers in Orlando the spectacular experience of this award-winning Broadway production."

Over the past four years, THE LION KING's two national touring productions have played to more than 10 million people in more than 44 major cities in 27 states.  During the coming year, THE LION KING will premiere in Appleton, Austin, Ft. Myers and Jacksonville, and play return engagements in Ft. Lauderdale, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Louisville, Charlotte, Dallas and Memphis.

THE LION KING is the winner of over 70 major awards worldwide and has become a global phenomenon seen by over 34 million people. In addition to Broadway and its two national tours, THE LION KING can also be seen in London, Hamburg, Tokyo and South Korea.  A new production of the show will premiere in Johannesburg, South Africa, in June 2007.
