THE PAJAMA GAME to Play Maltz Jupiter Theatre, 5/16-17

By:

The buoyantly blissful musical The Pajama Game is just weeks away from its debut as the most heartwarming, high-energy show ever to be performed by students at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Paul and Sandra Goldner Conservatory of Performing Arts!

Slated for performances May 16 and 17 on the Theatre's stage, The Pajama Game features 83 local children in grades 3 - 12 who have been preparing for the production since August. Directed by Conservatory instructor Lea Roy, The Pajama Game features choreography by Broadway veteran Brian Andrews with music direction by Sarah-Helen Land.

Written by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross and based on the book "7 ½ Cents" by Richard Bissell, this Tony Award-winning musical takes place in the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory in 1953, where the workers' demands for a pay increase of 7 ½ cents are being ignored. Enter the handsome new factory superintendent, Sid Sorokin, and the firebrand leader of the grievance committee, Babe Williams, and sparks fly.

"This lively tale not only provides a grand show for our students to be a part of, but many educational opportunities along the way, with such storyline topics as minimum wage, factory conditions and living and working in 1950s America," said Julie Rowe, the Theatre's director of education. "It's relevant because we're teaching our students about many of the same issues they still present in the news today."

Brimming with such jazzy hits as "Steam Heat," "Hernando's Hideaway" and "Hey There," The Pajama Game's splashy dance numbers feature classic Bob Fosse jazz choreography and performances by a full orchestra.

"The Pajama Game is a classic piece of musical theatre," Rowe said. "It features very funny physical comedy, with a poignant message about the power of love and standing up for what's right, even when it's unpopular. This charming story will leave you laughing and tapping your toes!"

The musical also features design elements from a host of industry professionals, including scenic design by the Theatre's technical director Shannon Miller, sound design by the Theatre's resident sound designer Marty Mets and costume design by Jenna Hoefert.

Showtime for the Conservatory's upcoming production of The Pajama Game is 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17. Tickets are $20 for adults; $15 for children. For tickets, call the Theatre's box office at (561) 575-2223 or visit www.jupitertheatre.org.
