TheatreZone Wraps Up Season 7 with Musical Comedy gem The Boy Friend

Award winning musical has kept its flapper charm for over 50 years

"Always leave them laughing when you say goodbye" is attributed to legendary entertainer and producer George M. Cohan, so it's no surprise when TheatreZone artistic director Mark Danni adheres to Cohan's advice, completing a successful Season 7 by the Equity professional theatre group, with The Boy Friend.

"This great little musical introduced Julie Andrews (Polly) to American audiences and the recording has kept its flapper charm for more than 50 years," reports Danni. "Talk about nostalgia! It's fun, frothy and fabulous," he adds.

The Boy Friend is a sparkling, tongue-in-cheek 1920's romp, set in the French Rivera, offering lots of Charleston and tap dancing to such tunes as "Won't You Charleston With Me?" "I Could Be Happy With You" and "Perfect Young Ladies" accompanied by a seven-piece live orchestra comprised of two reeds, two trumpets, a banjo, drum and piano conductor.

The cast of The Boy Friend includes New York actress and TheatreZone newcomer Jennifer Piacenti as Polly, the English heiress attending Madame Dubonnet's Finishing School near Nice.

TheatreZone favorite Angie Radosh (Aunt Sue in No No Nanette) returns as the bewitchingly flirtatious Madame Dubonnet. Actor Bryon DeMent, who recently wowed audiences with his role as Professor Bhear in Little Women plays Tony, a delivery boy. DeMent is joined by three "perfect young ladies," actresses Megan Jimenez's over-achieving Maisie; Dulcie by Juliet Jewett and Crystal Demetriades as the awkward Nancy. Elizabeth Dimon is the haughty Lady Brockhurst.

Musical director/actor Charles Fornara returns to the stage in the role of Percival Browne, Polly's father and Madame Dubonnet's willing captive. Fornara's last stage role was David in TheatreZone's production of Company. Mary Sytsma is Hortense, the French maid.

The Boy Friend performs at the G&L Theatre for 10 performances May 3 through May 13, 2012. Individual tickets are $38 and $43 each with group discounts for 10 or more.
