Surfside Players invites the public to audition for GREASE The ORIGINAL High School Musical.

By Jim Jacobs and WarRen Casey
Directed and Choreographed by Christopher D. Kirby

Here is Rydell High's senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding T-Birds and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking Pink Ladies in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head "greaser" Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their "Summer Nights" as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as "Greased Lightnin'", "It's Raining on Prom Night", "Alone at the Drive-In Movie" recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. An 8-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals along with innumerable school and community productions place this among the world's most popular musicals...

...and now it is coming to Surfside Players! We will be holding OPEN AUDITIONS on Sunday and Monday, November 6 and 7, at 7:00pm for GREASE, the Original High School Musical, by Jim Jacobs and WarRen Casey. Our director and choreographer is Christopher D. Kirby, artistic director of the Renaissance Academy of Performing Arts and Dance (Cocoa, FL), who choreographed Surfside's acclaimed production of CATS last season. We welcome him back to Surfside and are thoroughly excited he will be leading this production. Production dates will be January 20 - February 5, 2012, with option to extend to February 12.

We are looking for a cast of around 25, at least 9 women and 9 men, mostly in their teens and twenties with a few supporting roles for older actors. All auditioners must be in high school or older. In addition, auditioners under 18 must have their audition forms signed by a parent or guardian giving consent. This is the original version, not the cleaned-up "School Version," and it contains strong language.

Auditions will consist of script readings, solo and group singing, and learning a short dance number. Please prepare an audition piece if you are able: either sheet music for piano, or a karaoke track on CD, of a song you love and enjoy singing. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

GREASE is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. (www.samuelfrench.com) Surfside is located in Cocoa Beach, FL, an hour's drive east of Orlando. Take 520 or 528 eastbound to A1A southbound, or take Pineda, Eau Gallie, or 192 eastbound to A1A northbound. Drive into Cocoa Beach, and turn west on Fifth Street South.
