SOUTH PACIFIC is being staged in Bradenton, FL (102 Old Main St.) until Sept. 5.
The musical is set in an island during World War Two. It focuses on two parallel love stories that become threatened by prejudice, as well as war. In the play, a nurse from Arkansas (Nellie) falls for Emile, an older French planter.
In 2008, the Lincoln Center Theater production of the musical won multiple Tony Awards, including Best Director for Bartlett Sher and Best Musical Revival.
Performances for the Manatee Players production in Bradenton take place Thursday Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
