SILL Announces Line-up of 41 Speakers & Performers For Its’ 41st Season
Sill's line-up for the 2012 Season features 26 engaging US policy experts and 15 world famous musicians in 86 lectures each Monday to Friday for 12 weeks starring the week of January 10. There also will be two free lectures on January 6.
The four Global Series present US Policy experts covering major international and domestic developments such as: "Why Lies Ahead As China Takes the Stage as a World Power" delivered by Career Ambassador J. Stapleton Roy, Director of the Kissinger Institute on China and the "Impact of the Arab Spring" discussed by Molly Williamson, a Career Minister with the U.S. Foreign Service.
The Sill Music Monday Series meets in Sarasota and Venice as well, and offers famous musicians, singers and composers in musical conversations, which are part interview and part performance. This year's season begins with Grammy Award Winner Sherill Milnes, the 20th century's leading Verdi baritone at the Metropolitan Opera for over 30 years.
A free lecture will be offered as part of "SILL-a-bration Day" on January 6. Dr. Susan McManus, the distinguished professor of political science at USF and political analyst for WFLA-TV, will discuss "Contentious Politics in the New Media Age". She will be at Sarasota's Player's Theatre at 10 AM and the Venice Community Center at 2 PM. Starting on Monday, December 12, while supplies last, anyone in the community will be able to get two free tickets for the Sarasota lecture at The Players Theatre 709 N. Tamiami Trail or to the Venice lecture at the Paper Pad store at 327 W. Venice Ave, Venice.
SILL draws over 30,000 attendees to the lectures each season with another 4,000 plus enjoying the Thursday Global Series lecture or Monday Music Series via SILL Select that allows residential communities such as Plymouth Harbor and the Sarasota Bay Club to present these talks via DVD in their community rooms.
Season tickets available are available for each series of 12 lectures for $75. Single lecture tickets are $7. The 2012 Program guide, with the complete season's schedule plus ticket order forms, are now available at Sarasota and Venice libraries as well as on-line at www.sillsarasota.org.
