Photo Flash: Gramercy Theatre Presents Disney's 'Aladdin' Jr.

By:

Gramercy Theatre and the historic Plaza Theatre opened their summer production of Disney's Aladdin Jr. on Friday August 8.  Performances run through August 17 at the Main Stage Theatre of The Plaza, 425 North Bumby Ave, Downtown Orlando.

The cast is comprised of 21 performers from the Central Florida area. The company includes talented youth performers integrated with seasoned professionals.

Hollywood actor Scott Damian ("Scrubs", "The Office") performs  the role of the comic trash-talkin' Genie.  Damian he plays the "Genie" in the large scaled Aladdin, A Musical Spectacular at the famed Hyperion Theatre at Disney's California Adventure Park in Los Angeles.

The production features Orlando's  Michael Navarro and Genna Kanago as Aladdin and Jasmine.

"This is the perfect summer outing for families," says Dan Roche, Gramercy Theatre Artistic Director and Director/Producer of the production. "Gramercy has worked hard to create a high quality production yet keep ticket prices attractive to family budgets."

The fun, fast-moving musical adaptation of the Disney film, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, contains all of the favorite songs from the movie, including "A Whole New World" and "Friend Like Me".

This condensed version subtitled "Jr." is anything but junior, incorporating eyecatching visual effects such as a flying carpet, a giant moving elephant, aerial, black light and scenic effects.

The production features choreography and musical staging by New York choreographer Staś Kmieć, integrating a mix of ethnic and musical theater styles.

For the Gramercy production, the flying carpet effects were created by Hall Associates Flying Effects from Chicago; sets are designed and created by Mitchell Orben and Brandon Curran; costumes by Barcy Ford and Kristen Bornman; lights and special effects by Andrew Shalda; Rita Kay is Vocal Director.
