Pat Metheny Creates THE ORCHESTRATION TOUR, Arrives At The Phillips Center 4/11

World-renowned Jazz musician Pat Metheny said he's fulfilling a lifelong dream with his creation of The Orchestrion Tour, at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, April 11.
For this tour, Pat moves from brilliant solo guitar improvisations to the unveiling of a completely new technology for the presentation of acoustically driven music he has dubbed "Orchestrionics." With a guitar, pen or keyboard he is able to create a detailed compositional environment or a spontaneously developed improvisation, recontextualizing the idea of what constitutes a solo performance by a single musician. In the jazz tradition of exploring fresh musical concepts, the project creates a new, open-ended platform for musical composition, improvisation and performance. The New York Times described The Orchestrion Tour as "beyond the obvious technical feat - thousands of moving parts, executing a programmed score - the performance dazzled."Born into a musical family in 1954, Pat Metheny was soon working regularly with the best jazz musicians in Kansas City, receiving valuable on-the-bandstand experience at an unusually young age. At the age of 18, Pat Metheny was the youngest teacher ever at the University of Miami. At 19, he became the youngest teacher ever at the Berklee College of Music, where he also received an honorary doctorate more than 20 years later.Sunday, April 11, 7:30 p.m.
